Togging up!

Going Commando! is the 'most fun' part of my research, which involves re-enactment in the form of experimental archaeology. First things first, Ossie Moon had recruits on 36 hour exercises in the wild environs of Achnacarry and the River Arkaig wearing only their standard isuue battle dress; a wool serge. I need to reproduce this as closely as possible if I am going to be able to re-create the experience, exposure and overal performance these clothess provided. Kay Canvas are probably the manufacturer of reproduction clothing which is closest to the original garments in design, manfacture and materials. I intend to purchase the 'raiding' clothes set, along with an officers jacket.

Soldier of Fortune - Commando light raiding order He wears very basic kit need for the raid, a knitted commando cap instead of a steel helmet, Woolly jumper to keep him warm on the cold nights but allowing him flexibility to move and making it easier to climb that with his BD jacket on. On his chest he has the light Assault vest carrying spare ammo and grenades, tied around his waist is the toggle rope help to climb up or down a rocky crag and attached by his BD leg pocket is the legendary Commando dagger. His kit is finished off with a pair of rubber soled boots so he could sneak up to the enemy without making a noise like the steel studded ammo boots would have done, sometimes even PT shoes were worn for the same purpose.
